Wow. I love the library. A while ago, I reserved a book at the library, having either seen it on a bestseller list or read a summary or both. A couple of weeks ago, after I'd forgotten all about the hold, the book came in. I started reading, and was hooked by about chapter three. Amazing book: great characters, plot, humor., etc.
The book's called Fablehaven, and is (as I was very excited to learn at the end of the library's paperback version) part of a series. The fifth (and final?) book is coming out THIS MONTH!!
The book is categorized more for younger readers, and though people get confused sometimes when they see me reading a children's book, I'm okay, because there's no denying good literature. Last I heard, that Harry Potter kid was doing pretty well.
I shan't summarize the plot because it's difficult to explain without somebody saying, "So it's like Spiderwick?" or "Oh, it's a fantasy." It's easier for me to simply say "READ IT," in an intense, wide-eyed way which makes people start reading "it" just to have an excuse to go to a different room.
However, I will say that in the books, I enjoy the fact that the main characters, Seth and Kendra, aren't orphans, or in love with a vampire (or werewolf), as is really the only stuff on shelves these days*. I love that Seth and Kendra's grandparents are major characters, the different powers some characters got for their bravery, the beautiful artwork by Brandon Dorman, and it does help to have a nice quote from a certain Orson Scott Card (Ender's Game!) on the back cover.
So, on March 23, I hope to be turning the pages of my own copy of "Keys to the Demon Prison"! I'd better finish book four soon!
Oh, and apparently Fablehaven is going to be a movie!!
*I did enjoy the Twilight Saga, but enough is enough! If I see a cover with a title like Forever Blood**, etc., I move on to find some Hogwarts, Camp Half-Blood, or Fablehaven.
**Just made this title up, please don't search for it.
